The Effect Of Diet And Exercise On Controlling Diabetes
Literature Support ââ¬Å"Reviewing the literature will inform the author the scope of the topic and the gaps evident in literature. Uncovering the body of literature in the field of science and practice is dynamic and evolving intellectual and practice focused endeavorâ⬠(Melnyk Fineout-Overholt, 2011, p. 415). Search Method There have been several studies done on the effects of diet and exercise in controlling diabetes. The key words used were diet, exercise and type 2 diabetes mellitus, hemoglobin A1c and diabetic complication prevention. The studies were all searched through database from GCU online library, science direct, google scholar CINAHL and Medline. Many of theâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦After a 3-month study that ended in February of 2013 significant changes were not detected. However, in third group though who did exercise and diet along with the OAD the HbA1c dropped from an average of initial 7.1 to 6.8. Group 1 came down to 7, group 2 went up to 7.3 and group 4 to 7.2. The study concluded that diet and exercise together has a positive impact on the outcome (Sonmez, Aksoy, Ozturk, 2015, p. 93). The validity of the study is challenging because the study has so many variables and different groups and the time for the study was not adequate to bring the proper results. Self-management of diabetes and hypertension with exercise, diet, self-monitoring and smoking cessation was studied by K Radhakrishnan in 2012. This was done through random review of controlled studies published between 2001 and 2010. He included 10 studies and came up with the conclusion that the interventions had no impact on the self-management activities such as diet exercise of smoking habits. The research though did not have a good sample size and the data collection was non-binding (Radhakrishnan, 2012, p. 496).
